  1. Who is Shunichiro Kamiya?

Born in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture, Shunichiro Kamiya began playing taiko at the age of nine through his local festival group. He trained under the Wadaiko Unit Koh before joining DRUM TAO, a world-renowned taiko entertainment group, and later became a member of KODO, Japan’s leading taiko ensemble based on Sado Island.

Since becoming an independent artist in 2017, Kamiya has been active as a performer, director, and composer, appearing at international festivals including Burning Man. With more than 1,000 performances worldwide, his taiko style is known for its powerful sound and emotional expression that resonates deeply with audiences.

His strength lies in the global network of taiko friends and collaborators he has built around the world.

  1. Shunichiro’s Mission Through Taiko

I believe taiko is not just an instrument, but a tool for connection. Historically, taiko was used to send signals across villages, to pray for rain, and to unite communities. Its sound could travel as far as four kilometers, reaching people beyond the limits of the human voice.

From childhood, Shunichiro was fascinated by this role of taiko as a bridge between people and the unseen. Today, he thrives to continue this tradition through stage productions, the community group Matoi no Kai, and workshops that bring people together.

For him, performance is not merely producing sound: it is the act of delivering emotion. Taiko is a total art form, where rhythm, movement, breath, and atmosphere come together to shake the air and touch the human spirit.

  1. Our Vision

Shunichiro Kamiya’s artistic and community work is dedicated to honoring tradition, living fully in the present, and passing culture on to the next generation. Through rigorous training, passionate performances, and inclusive community building, we aim to deliver inspiration, hope, and belonging.

  1. Taiko × Performing Arts Projects

“ZIQQURAT” (2022):
Inspired by the Tower of Babel, combined taiko, dance, and theater to express human vitality. Premiered in Nagoya, later performed at Saitama Arts Theater and the Estonia International Arts Festival Tartu 2024.

“TZADDIK” (2025):
Based on the biblical story of Cain and Abel, reimagined as a universal theme: What is righteousness? Premiered at Chikusa Bunka Theater, Nagoya.

  1. Matoi no Kai – Community Building Through Taiko

Founded in 2017, Matoi no Kai brings together young taiko players and enthusiasts from across Japan. With original performances (Matoi Awase vol.1–6) and community events, the group has connected diverse audiences nationwide. An international performance in Taiwan (2026) is scheduled.

We also conduct Taiko workshops at schools, children’s homes, and companies. For corporations, we provide team-building programs using taiko to strengthen communication and unity.

  1. TAIKO CARE & Taiko Tengoku Music Studio

In 2021, Kamiya developed TAIKO CARE, the world’s first specialized cleaner for taiko drumheads—now sold in 25 stores across Japan and overseas.

He also produced Taiko Tengoku Music Studio (Nishimikawa, Aichi), a 24-hour multipurpose music studio offering rehearsal spaces for taiko, bands, and dance.

  1. Taiko × Marketing × Visual Arts
